Today, our elementary school students officially marked the end of their summer of reading! The celebration wrapped up their exciting journey through books with some popsicles and games in, where else, the ES library!
Fostering a lifelong love for books and lasting reading habits is done one book at a time! Over the summer students were encouraged to maintain the healthy reading habits they’ve built up at school. Marking each 20-minute session by coloring a beach ball on their charts, students had a fun way to see how much of the summer reading challenge they’d accomplished, which they celebrated with popsicles and games in the library.
Inspiring Young Minds
I read every night, it helps me fall asleep," giggled 4th grader Shifa, proudly showing her fully decorated summer reading challenge sheet. Her favorite book? "Noodle the Doodle Wins the Day."
With over 17,000 reading resources, including e-books and audiobooks, Shifa and her classmates have no shortage of books to choose between. And the best way to find a book, of course, is to browse the titles right on the shelves. With a wealth of stories to explore and delight in, there was something for everyone and students returned well colored sheets!

Elementary school librarians, Nicole Perry and Gretchen Dillon emphasize that there are many benefits to reading, regardless of what language a child chooses to read in. In addition to English, our ES library has books in Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, French, Hindi, and other languages.
Events like today's celebration aim to create a supportive community of lifelong readers. As we start the new school year, we're sure the books our students read over the summer will continue to inspire and help them in their learning. Whether it's 20 minutes before bedtime or a lazy Sunday afternoon with a good book, every moment spent reading helps your child grow and learn.
We're looking forward to another year of exploring books and discovering new stories together!
