Spring Parent Series: Empowering ES Families Through Knowledge and Connection

Spring Parent Series: Empowering ES Families Through Knowledge and Connection
Tanya Olander

In a series of parent sessions this spring, experts from our elementary school will provide important insights and tips on student support and connection based on parent feedback.

During our elementary school parent coffee in December, “Looking Back, Looking Ahead,” we asked our parents to share their questions, thoughts, and concerns. In a four-part monthly parent series this spring, several of our expert educators will provide insights and tips, addressing the themes that emerged from parents’ responses.

ES Principal Melanie Sylvester addresses parents at the beginning of the year.

“Fostering a strong and supportive community for students is key to student success and well-being,” says ES Principal Melanie Sylvester. “Our first semester’s primary focus was ensuring that our students were well-settled, and now we want to expand our resources and support to parents even more for the benefit of our students.”

March 28: Supporting Conversations About Safety at Home

Our elementary school counselors, Shawn Edwards and Lance Paul, will host the first parent coffee, “Safety First,” scheduled for March 28. They will explain how the school addresses topics about personal safety in carefully crafted age-appropriate lessons, providing parents with essential tools.

As children become more independent and take their place in the world, they must learn to advocate for themselves.

“We understand that discussing these topics can be challenging for some families. However, building students’ ability to advocate for themselves is one of the most important things we can do for their safety. During the session, parents will learn how to get comfortable holding these important conversations with their children,” shares Ms. Edwards.

Spring Parent Series Dates

The remaining three elementary school parent sessions, also based on parent feedback and requests, will cover the topics of multilingual language and literacy, family media balance, and a year in review with an assessment focus and summer support.

  • Tuesday, March 28, 8:00-9:30 am MP4: Safety First with Shawn Edwards (ES Counselor)  and Lance Paul (ES Counselor)

Through the spring parent series, we hope families feel even more confident in nurturing their children’s growth and development.

We invite our parents to join us in strengthening our community and working together to provide the best possible support for our students.
