Topping Out Ceremony - An SSIS Milestone of Excellence

Topping Out Ceremony - An SSIS Milestone of Excellence
Tanya Olander

Today, with the sky as our backdrop, we were joined by esteemed guests and partners in the joyous celebration and topping-out ceremony of our new Middle School building and our new STEAM/Design Center.

Among the guests at today's topping-out ceremony, we were honored to welcome SSIS Board Chair Ms. Gayle Tsien and SSIS board member Ms. Frances Ba. Their presence was truly a testament to their unwavering support of our school’s mission and their commitment to providing our students with unparalleled opportunities for innovation, creativity, and critical thinking.

Designed by Flansburgh Architects of Boston (USA), our new facilities will open in 2024. And these unique learning spaces will be just as impressive on the inside, which will house state-of-art equipment, research labs, and innovative collaboration spaces.

In addition to the architectural brilliance of Flansburgh, the commitment of Phu My Hung and the tireless efforts of VICONS Construction were recognized during the ceremony, as were our consultants – SPCC, Boho, and Atelier – who also deserve recognition for their invaluable contributions. As, of course, does our very own SSIS team under the able leadership of Ms. Wai Mun Fong, Associate Head of School for Finance and Operations, who have toiled relentlessly in their work to realize this ambitious dream.

The SSIS Leadership team, Dr. Catriona Moran, Ms. Gayle Tsien, and Ms. Frances Ba look on as Ms. Wai Mun Fong offers incense during the ceremony.

But in the end, what brought the most joy to this momentous occasion was seeing the faces of the students - three from middle school (pictured in our cover photo), and four from high school, who attended today’s ceremony.

MS Principal Daniel Kerr and MS Associate Principal Philip Wendel highlight the middle school spaces for the students who attended.

As Head of School, Dr. Moran conveyed to the students so beautifully in her speech: “I hope you dream big, work hard, and always remember that your potential is limitless. We may be the architects of these buildings, but you are the architects of the future, and we have great faith in your ability to create a better world.”
