"Here We Grow Again" - Celebrating the Exploration of New Ideas and New Spaces
Tanya Olander

Separating our walkways from the exciting construction of our new middle school and new STEAM/Design Center, both due to open in 2024, is a brand new gallery of student artwork.

Inspired by the creativity of our students, our first walkway exhibition “Here We Grow Again,” officially opened this week. What was a blank blue “hoarding” wall, has been turned into a gallery profiling artwork from students in each of our three divisions. The exhibition is a celebration of the growth that happens when you explore new ideas and have room to express them.

“The room to grow is central to who we are,” says Head of School Dr. Moran. “And as we delight in these beautiful canvases, even more spaces are being constructed right behind them to ensure our students have even more room to grow and develop through the unique opportunities an SSIS education offers.”

Middle school students explore shapes and textures in Rebecca Jardin's art class.

Curated by our six art teachers, the project was a collaboration between elementary school (cover image), middle school, and high school. Although each unique work can certainly be celebrated on its own, they also were chosen to come together as a cohesive body of work.

Art teachers Rebecca Jardin (MS) and Nicholas Stonehouse (ES), two of the six SSIS art teachers who collaborated on realizing the "Here We Grow Again" exhibition through their students' creative artwork.

And come together, they do, even though the works range from individual black-and-white zentangle portraits to bright and colorful explorations of circles and self.

Students enjoy and benefit from their collaborations, as well!

So, next time you visit our campus, please take a moment to enjoy the gallery and the creativity of our students, and the example of a great collaboration between educators across our divisions.
