After much thought and discussion about what is best for our students' physical, mental, and social well-being, the following policy changes will begin when we return from the Winter Break.

#1Beginning in January, backpacks WILL be allowed in classrooms.

Students will be able to bring either tote bags or backpacks, whatever is more convenient, into their classroom. It is still the expectation that all valuables must be stored in the students' lockers. Also, backpacks and tote bags will still not be permitted in common areas during recess and lunch—they must be placed in lockers during those times.

#2:  Beginning in January, there will be NO technology use permitted during recess and lunch, including playing online games.

The only exception to this policy will be if a student is required to use technology by a teacher for academic purposes. This shift has been made to create more face-to-face opportunities and interactions between students, and to ensure that break times are spent engaging socially with peers, not with screens.

We're excited to see how these changes positively impact our students as we continue with the school year.
