Dear High School Parents and Students,

To help our students smoothly conclude the first semester, we want to share important details regarding preparation, assessment, and reflection.

December 4 - 9: PREPARATION & PROJECT COMPLETION

From Thursday, December 4, through Tuesday, December 9, students will attend classes as usual. To maximize study time, we will NOT schedule any new assessments, tests, or quizzes (except those already communicated). This ensures that end-of-semester activities and projects are spread out.

Please also note the following:

  • Long-term projects may be due, and all project-based assessments are due Tuesday, December 9.
  • Teachers will not assign new homework. Instead, students should use this time to study and prepare for the assessments.
  • Teachers will communicate specific details about wrapping up their course for the semester, including assessment formats.
  • Depending on the course, some new IB and AP material may still be taught to prepare students for their final assessments in May.

December 10 - 16: ASSESSMENT WEEK

Assessments will take place from December 10 - 16.

The schedules have been designed to ensure that no student has more than two assessments per day, helping to ensure success. Each student’s schedule is determined by the courses they take and will be distributed during Advisory class. Here are the general assessment schedules:

Grade 9 Semester 1 Assessment Schedule

Grade 10-12 Semester 1 Assessment Schedule

December 16: Make-up Assessment Day (No School)

If a student misses an assessment due to illness or an emergency, they can schedule their make-up assessment through the High School Office. Make-up assessments may be scheduled on Tuesday, December 16, from 11:45 am to 2:00 pm. Unless a student has a scheduled make-up assessment, high school students should not be on campus this day.

The Value of End-of-Semester Assessments

End-of-semester assessments allow students to:

  • Review and consolidate key concepts.
  • Assess their strengths and areas for growth.
  • Practice test-taking strategies and reflect on their performance.
  • Reflect on their learning and set goals for the second semester.

End-of-semester assessments also help teachers ensure accurate grading, report cards, and a fresh start for the second semester.

December 17-19: FINAL DAYS OF SEMESTER 1

Students must attend school on December 17, 18, and 19 to:

  • Have time to reflect on the semester and their performance
  • Gain clarity on the results of their assessments
  • Identify their strengths and areas for growth for the second semester and beyond
  • Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the end-of-semester schedule.

Associate High School Principal
