[AS] Influenza Reporting & Absence Reminder (Oct 2025)
Elisia Brodeur
Dear SSIS Parents,
We are seeing an increase in Influenza (flu) cases in our community. To protect the health of all students, staff, and families, we are asking for everyone’s active cooperation in following these two critical requirements steps required by both the Ministry of Health and SSIS:
Mandatory Actions to Protect Our Community
- Inform the Health Office of Confirmed Cases
If your child is diagnosed with Influenza, please inform your divisional nurse immediately. Timely reporting allows us to monitor cases and take appropriate measures to reduce further spread. - Follow the Mandatory 7-Day Absence
Per the Ministry of Health (Circular 2903/SYT-NVY), students with confirmed Influenza must remain at home for 7 days from the day symptoms began. This mandatory guideline ensures sufficient recovery time and helps to contain the spread of the virus.
Additional Health Reminders
- Anyone with flu-like symptoms—such as cough, congestion, body aches, or fatigue—should stay home until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours.
- Anyone with a temperature of 37.8°C or higher must stay home and may return only after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
Flu Vaccine Availability
We strongly encourage families to consider flu vaccination as a preventive measure. Vaccines are currently available at:
- Family Medical Practice D7 - Influvac
- VNVC D7 - Vaxigrip Tetra/Influvac Tetra
- FV D7 - Vaxigrip Tetra/Influvac Tetra
For more information about Influenza, symptoms, and care, please review this CDC Flu Fact Sheet. We also ask that you read our Health Office Handbook and our Communicable Diseases Chart and take note of our school’s sick policy. As always, please consult a doctor if you are concerned about your child’s symptoms.
Thank you for your immediate attention and cooperation in following these health and safety requirements. By working together, we can help keep our community healthy and our students learning safely.
Best regards,
Kerry Brint
Health Office Manager
