An Exciting and Safe Start to 2020 - 2021

It’s hard to say who is most excited about the new school year starting - parents, teachers, or students. But one thing is certain: spirits were high among everyone as students scanned their IDs to enter campus and get the school year under way!

Our 2020 - 2021 schoolwide theme, “Care and Excellence,” serves as our guiding principle this year. It will take many expressions, all with the common goal of providing each student with the opportunities and resources they need to reach their highest potential in a safe and healthy environment.

Welcome Back - Our Campus Has Grown Too

We are thrilled to be welcoming students back to an even more beautiful campus, with new spaces where they can reach their highest potential! Over the summer, our phase 1 construction was completed, and each division has new purpose-built classrooms.

In the elementary school, a brand new wing for the first-grade classrooms sits atop the Auditorium. The new, bright, and versatile learning spaces have custom furnishings designed to stimulate growth and inquiry.

Our new first-grade classrooms are airy and bright.

This summer, we also added several new classrooms to our Middle School’s fourth floor. The timing couldn’t be better as this school year, we’ve expanded our grade 8 to meet the growing demand for seats at SSIS.

Another significant upgrade this summer is the new, state-of-the-art High School music room, which is sure to inspire our talented high school musicians.

Health and Safety Upgrades to Our Campus

To enhance our existing protocols and the three-layered safety approach (masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing) we established last semester, we made many health and safety upgrades this summer.

For one, disinfection is taken to a whole new level, as each division now has a mobile UV sterilization device for nightly sterilization of all classrooms. And the new epoxy paint that covers the lower section of the walls and stairwells in the MS and ES buildings will facilitate cleaning and disinfecting.

To further maintain social-distancing and keep entrance and exit routines running smoothly, a separate entryway now welcomes middle school and high school students

In our Atrium, we’ve installed ceiling fans to increase air circulation and make the space between the Middle School and Elementary School buildings more comfortable.

Ceiling fans in the Atrium increase air circulation, and soon the area have additional shade as the bougainvilleas reach the newly installed ceiling trellises.

All classrooms’ windows have been upgraded with operable panes to enable natural ventilation when the rooms are empty.

Further, new plexiglass shields separate students at the tables in the Cafeteria and High School Kiosk, to prevent droplet spread and help students follow the social-distancing guidelines.

Delightful “Little Dragon Hill”

Bringing the excitement of this new school year to a close, we leave you with a new, delightfully designed space for our ES Dragons - “Little Dragon Hill.” Envisioned, designed, and built entirely by SSIS staff to encourage our Elementary School students to explore and interact with the outdoors, it integrates with “Dragon Park,” a tropical garden for exploration and discovery.

Second-grade students got an exclusive first introduction to "Little Dragon Hill."

Continuous upgrades and enhancements like these are an important and integral part of being a not-for-profit school, where all revenue from tuition and fees goes to building state-of-the-art facilities, enhancing classroom resources, implementing innovative programs and recruiting world-class teachers.

And with Little Dragon Hill and the multiple other investments we've made over the summer, we can’t wait to watch how our students excel this year!
