Head of School
We are very glad that your explorations have led you to our website and given us this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. Saigon South International School seeks to offer a supportive community of teachers, administrators, students and parents, in which a passionate educator can find personal fulfillment and growth while contributing to the intellectual and character development of young people.
Here you will find the expectations and beliefs that are important to being successful in our community. I encourage you to not only read this section, but also to explore the rest of our website to understand the vital roles the school’s core values of Academic Excellence, Sense of Self, Dedicated Service, Balance in Life, and Respect for All, our mission, and our educational objectives play in our work together. Our greatest asset in realizing our mission is our professional teaching staff and recruiting such a critical and vital resource is our highest priority. We seek highly qualified candidates with expertise in their discipline or grade level and experience in best practices. In the development of the SSIS curriculum, we measure ourselves against rigorous standards and programs and continual reevaluate our mapping. All faculty and staff are expected to work collegiality to achieve the school’s educational objectives and mission. Grade level and department teams are expected to plan together and develop common assessments.
Building on our strengths and continually reexamining our practices are at the heart of a great school. Aligning our standards and assessments throughout the school is ongoing work as is the implementation of a balanced literacy program using reading and writing continuums and the best practices. We are accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In our high school, we offer both Advanced Placement (AP) and diploma courses through the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as rigorous preparation for our students before they move on to tertiary studies.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this brief overview will help you decide to pursue a position with us. For those who do “sign on,” I can promise you professionally challenging work and a personally rewarding and enriching stay in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
