IB Diploma Programme
SSIS is an IB World School authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the high school. This prestigious IB program is recognized as a university entrance qualification in more than 70 countries worldwide. Full IB Diploma recipients receive advance standing or placement at U.S and Canadian Universities.
Students in Grades 11 and 12 have the option to take courses recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Students at SSIS may choose to pursue a full IB diploma or single-course certificates. These courses can help influence university admissions decisions and can even earn university credit.
11th and 12th grade students students will be able to choose Diploma Programme courses from the six Diploma Programme subject areas*:
Group 1: Studies in Language & Literature: English A:Language & Literature; Literature, Korean A: Language & Literature; Vietnamese A: Literature; Self-Taught Language A: Literature
Group 2: Language Acquisition: Spanish, Mandarin
Group 3: Individuals and Societies: History, Economics, Geography, Psychology
Group 4: Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems & Societies, Computer Science
Group 5: Mathematics
Group 6: The Arts and Electives: Visual Arts, Music, Theatre
*There may be restrictions on choices within a group because of scheduling conflicts.
To qualify for the full IB Diploma, in addition to studying six subjects, each student will have to complete the requirements for the three core elements of this program. These include: The Theory of Knowledge course, an Extended Essay and a community service program known as CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).
