Teaching at SSIS

We strongly urge you to view the SSIS video for an up-to-date introduction to SSIS and life in HCMC.

This section will give you some basic information about the responsibilities and benefits of working at Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

SSIS normally hires teachers with a Master's Degree and at least two years of successful teaching experience. Teachers must also be certified or licensed to teach by their home countries. Our teachers typically remain for an average of 3-5 years. The school is particularly interested in attracting teachers with experience in integrating technology into the learning process, as well as teachers with EAL training. Elementary teachers should be familiar with literacy continuums in reading and writing and be prepared to work with collegues to implement the best practices and enhance learning.

We welcome new teachers and view their prior experiences and ideas as valuable assets to SSIS and our professional community of educators. New teachers are provided ample opportunities to become involved and help shape the lives of our students through teaching, coaching and providing support for numerous student events and activities throughout the year.

SSIS: Background Information

Saigon South International School was founded in 1997 by the Phu My Hung Corporation to fill an increasing need for U.S.-style education for both local residents and expatriate families. Located in the quickly growing Saigon South Urban Development Project, SSIS is just two and a half miles south of the current city center - District One in Ho Chi Minh City. SSIS is owned by the Phu My Hung Corporation but operates as a non-profit entity within the company. A three-member School Board governs the school in consultation with the Phu My Hung Corporation. The Board believes deeply in the importance of education in general and is dedicated in particular to the development of Saigon South International School as the premier school in Saigon.

Today, SSIS enrolls nearly 870 students from over thirty-five countries. Our teachers are professionally certified and experienced and over half hold advanced degrees. Most come from North America, Australia, and the U.K. Our student teacher ration is 10 to 1; and all Early Childhood and elementary classes have an full time English-speaking, certified Vietnamese teacher as a full-time teaching assistant.

School facilities are outstanding and appropriately support our curricular and co-curricular program as well as our after school activities and athletic program. The school offers the Advanced Placement Program and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in the high school.
