Letter from Head of School

Dear Interested Teacher,

Let me thank you for your interest in teaching at Saigon South International School. With the growing Vietnamese economy and our supportive community, SSIS offers a wonderful opportunity for professional growth and personal fulfillment for qualified candidates.

Within this section of our website are the expectations and beliefs that are important to be a successful educator in our community. If you are interested in joining our faculty, I encourage you to read carefully the information contained in the following pages, as well as the rest of our website, to better understand the school’s core values, mission, educational objectives and benefits.

Our greatest asset in realizing our mission is our professional teaching staff; and recruiting such a critical and vital resource must be, then, our highest priority.
We seek highly qualified candidates with experience in contemporary curricular models. The school uses the Understanding by Design (UbD) unit planning model, Rubicon Atlas to plan and archive units, and 6+1 Writing Traits as the framework for teaching writing.  All faculty and staff are expected to work collegially toward realization of the school’s educational objectives and mission, and grade level and department teams are expected to plan together and develop common assessments.

The coming years will be busy ones at SSIS. In addition to ongoing curricular alignment of standards and assessment, the elementary school is currently implementing a balanced literacy program using reading and writing continuums and the best literacy practices. The high school is pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program for 2010, and teachers are beginning IB training and professional development.  Schoolwide, the professional staff will begin to prepare our comprehensive self-study for ongoing accreditation from WASC in 2011.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this brief overview in the following pages assists you in determining whether you wish to pursue a position with us. For those who do “sign on,” I can promise you professionally challenging work and a personally rewarding and enriching stay in HCMC, Vietnam.
