PTA Presidents Welcome Letter

Dear Parents & Faculty,

The SSIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) would like to welcome you all to the 2010-2011 school year. As the year quickly gets underway so does our PTA enrollment. Here at SSIS we take pride in our school and it shows. When you join our PTA, you join a community that encourages student achievement and enriches our children’s learning environment. We believe that building a bridge between our families and our school is key to our children’s academic success.

Being a member of our PTA also gives your child a voice. We advocate for all children, but the best voice your child could have is yours. Getting involved shows them you care about their education and well-being. Plus, there is no better way to find out what is happening at SSIS than joining the PTA. I strongly urge all members to attend the association meetings and participate in making decisions that affect your child. It is important to make your voice heard and your vote counted.

We are a diverse group of parents and teachers who come together for the sake of our children, and yours. Together we are able to bring educational and fun activities to our children beyond that of our school budget. Last year the PTA hosted the first annual PTA Family Day; it was a huge success and plan the same event this year, September 11, 2010.  PTA also supported funds for the MS/HS Dance Performance, ES Sports Day, Teacher appreciation breakfasts, and a grants program for the ES, MS, and HS students.  Two great events were the Charity Bazaar raising over $12,000 and International Week.  Both events brought together our students, teachers, parents, and really set our school apart in the community.  The PTA’s first year’s grants program designed specifically for student-initiated projects was a success.  These are just a few of the fun things we do that enrich the SSIS experience and create lasting memories.

This year we plan to increase our involvement in the Middle and High Schools.  For the Middle School, we will support the Middle School Blasts, four Friday evenings through the school year targeted specifically to the 6th – 8th graders.  PTA will host refreshments for finals week as well as sponsor a few scholarship awards.  In the Elementary School, PTA will work in conjunction with the administration organizing a committee to improve the playground.

From the first day of school through September 30th, we will be collecting PTA Dues so we warmly invite you to become an active member. We are always looking for new faces and fresh ideas. Together, we can make a difference.

The PTA membership fee is 600,000 VND per family. Simply fill out the envelope sent home with the PTA invoice and return with your cash payment (in the envelope provided) to the SSIS Bookkeeper, Ms. Trang, in the Business Office.  We will also have a PTA collection table in front of the Admissions Office from August 11-13th and August 16-17th from 7:45-8:15am and 2:45-3:15pm.

Included in this packet are (1) list of PTA committees, (2) a volunteer form, (3) schedule of PTA coffee mornings and meetings, and (4) the new school calendar. Thanks to those who have already volunteered to help or chair a committee. Please remember no matter where your talents or interests lie, there is a place for you in the SSIS PTA!

I am looking forward to working with all the parents and making this year an exciting and a successful one.  Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Sincerely,
