SSIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

What is it?
SSIS PTA is a diverse group of parents and teachers that come together for the common purpose of enriching the education of our children. PTA promotes communication and parent involvement in the activities of the school. PTA also support teachers and assists in special activities for the children and help build the SSIS community. PTA also serves as a liaison as necessary between parent and administration.

PTA hosts a few key events throughout the school year for all students and family members to enjoy.

Who is a member?
All parents and teachers of SSIS are members.

How does the PTA operate?
PTA is governed by an executive board that works synergistically with the administration team. The PTA board is diverse in culture as well as representation of all three schools.

PTA also consists of country ambassadors. These parents volunteer to be a contact for new families. Ambassadors help liaison between country parents and PTA enhancing communication between non – English (or parents not comfortable speaking English) speaking parents.

PTA organizes volunteers for various school activities, classroom help, and the libraries. There are many opportunities to volunteer through PTA, on a weekly basis, activity basis or both.

When does the PTA meet?
Coffee Mornings are informal gatherings with a light agenda. A short informal talk is given by a guest speaker. The venue is set to enhance communication between parents. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. PTA provides light refreshments.

Parent & Board Meetings are formal meetings in which the PTA Executive board reports to the general members of the PTA. Administration also reports important and new information at that time. PTA encourages all parents to attend the Parent & Board meetings.

Aug 12th – “New Families Coffee Morning” @ 8:15–9:15am (Auditorium)
Aug. 26th – Coffee Morning 8:15 – 9:30
Sept 17th – PTA Back to School Family Day @ 10-Noon (SSIS)
Sept 27th – PTA Parents & Board Meeting @ 1:30-3pm
Dec 13th – PTA Parents & Board Meeting @ 1:30-3pm

Jan 13th – Coffee Morning @ 8:15am
Feb 28th – PTA Parents & Board Meeting @ 1:30-3pm
Mar 23rd – Coffee Morning @ 8:15–9:30am
Apr 20th – PTA Parents & Board Meeting @ 1:30-3pm
May 17th – PTA Parents & Board Meeting @ 1:30-3pm

PTA will also offer parents only activities during the day. These programs are set up by our volunteer base. When you join the PTA, you will hear about such activities.

Parents and teachers working together make a huge impact on the success of programs in the school. This cooperative venture between parents and teachers leads to continued improvement at SSIS and helps to establish a sense of community on our campus.

How much are the dues?
PTA Dues amount is 400,000 VND per student for the academic year 2011/12. The PTA Dues are used to support many activities and projects throughout the entire academic year. This amount is fixed regardless of date of student enrollment and is non-refundable.

Included in membership is one free yearbook per dues paid student. Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the school year.

How are dues spent?
PTA dues enrich the school program by contributing support to activities and publications. The school calendar, Family Day, International Week, Sports Day, Teachers Day, Art Show, many special events, and seed money for many student lead projects are funded from PTA dues. 2011/12 PTA Board
