Habitat for Humanity
June 02, 2009

SSIS Grade 12 students recently participated in a Habitat for Humanity build in the Mekong Delta. Through many hours of mixing cement, shaping metal strands into re-bar, laying brick, replacing tile floors and digging a hole two cubic meters for a septic system, the students succeeded in transforming one local school into a much brighter educational environment. Perhaps the most memorable moments on the trip were the interactions between the local school children and our SSIS seniors playing various games and singing songs. Smiles were abundant and spirits were high despite the extreme heat and hard work involved. All who attended regarded the trip as a great team builder. Bridges were crossed between cultures and foundations were laid for future endeavors.
