Habitat for Humanity Build

May 28, 2010

From May 23rd to May 27th, 2010, Mark Isley and Karinna Jones accompanied 21 seniors from SSIS to My Tho to build houses with Habitat for Humanity. From 8:00 am to 4:00 pm students, teachers, and volunteers built walls, constructed bathrooms, laid foundation, smashed rocks, mixed mortar while laughing and sweating side by side. As a group, we worked on two sites. One house was completed at 80% and the other, 50%. At the end of the week, we dedicated our work to the home owners who received our effort with great pride and enthusiasm.

The Habitat for Humanity trip gave SSIS’ seniors the opportunity to give back to their community and be a part of positive change within the world. With glowing smiles and a few tears, our SSIS team left the work sites with feelings of accomplishment and gratitude. This is a trip we will never forget. It is a trip that changes lives forever.
