Middle School Curriculum
SSIS teachers understand middle school students. Our program is tailored in recognition of the interrelationships between academic success and emotional development. This understanding of and support for the emotional development of middle school students supports a positive Sense of Self – a personal outlook that encourages every student to strive to be the best student and best person they can be.The grouping of students into heterogeneous homeroom sections, which remain together, aids students in the transition from elementary to high school. Grade level teaching teams meet regularly to discuss curriculum and to share strategies that ensure the academic success of individual students.
Middle school faculty recognizes that learning is greatly enhanced by a process of inquiry, exploration, discovery and thoughtful reflection under the guidance of skillful teachers. Classes are structured around the philosophy that each student is unique and that students have different learning styles and learn at different rates, hence attention to students as individuals is important. At the same time, we recognize learning is a social as well as an individual endeavor and SSIS students are taught to work cooperatively and collaboratively as well as individually. Middle school faculty recognizes that learning is greatly enhanced by a process of inquiry, exploration, discovery and thoughtful reflection under the guidance of skillful teachers.
