International Baccalaureate (IB) Program

Saigon South International School is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Program (IBDP) to high school students. The IB Diploma Program is recognized worldwide as one of the most prestigious college preparatory programs offered, and we believe that the Diploma Program’s rigorous academic standards will help ensure SSIS delivers a challenging and rewarding college and university preparatory education to its students.

Students in Grades 11 and 12 have the option to take courses recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Depending on the number of Diploma Program courses for which they register, students at SSIS may choose to pursue a full IB diploma or single-course certificates. These courses can help influence university admissions decisions and can even earn university credit. Regardless of the results earned in the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Program, all students successfully completing 12th grade will receive an SSIS high school diploma.

11th and 12th grade students students will be able to choose Diploma Programme courses from the six Diploma Programme subject areas*:

  • Group 1: English A: Language and Literature; English A: Literature
  • Group 2: Second Language: Spanish, Mandarin
  • Group 3: Social Science: History, Economics, Geography, Psychology
  • Group 4: Science: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Systems & Societies, Physics
  • Group 5: Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Group 6: The Arts and Electives: Graphic Arts, Music

*There may be restrictions on choices within a group because of scheduling conflicts.

To qualify for the full IB Diploma, in addition to studying six subjects, each student will have to complete the requirements for the three core elements of this program. These include: The Theory of Knowledge course, an Extended Essay and a community service program known as CAS (Creativity, Action, Service).
