Kindergarten: Science
Children in the early childhood program have both planned and spontaneous opportunities to actively explore and inquire about the natural and physical world around them. Materials and experiences are provided in a safe, stimulating learning environment which encourages children to independently explore, ask questions, and investigate. Live plants and animals in the classroom provide real opportunities for children to learn about the needs of living things and to appreciate nature. Children are also exposed to a wide range of sensory materials and experiences to encourage hands-on exploration of physical properties. Kindergarteners use their five senses to observe and describe their world. Science tools such as blocks, magnets, construction materials, telescopes, prisms, magnifiers, and microscopes are available at learning centers for children to use in their daily play.
