Grade five students develop an understanding and appreciation of the variety of ways in which math is used in our everyday lives. They work independently and collaboratively in solving problems through multiple hands-on activities that emphasize conceptual understanding while building a mastery of basic skills.Resources:

Students who successfully complete the grade five mathematics program will be able to:
- Understand the meanings, uses, and representations of numerals
- Understand equivalent names for numerals
- Compare and order numbers
- Make reasonable estimates
- Understand the meaning of operations
- Analyze and interpret data
- Understand and apply basic concepts of probability
- Use appropriate techniques, tools, units and formulas in making measurements
- Investigate characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional objects
- Apply transformations and symmetry in geometric situations
- Understand basic algebraic patterns and functions
