Social Studies Goals
The grade four social studies program seeks to deepen the understanding of community, geography, history, culture and economics. Students learn about the different aspects of early American culture as they apply it to the growth of a nation. They are encouraged to analyze various materials and media, developing geographical and research skills. Through the study of communities that traveled to new continents, students explore the struggles encountered while in transit, as well as ones experienced once they were established in new locations.Resources:

Students who successfully complete the grade four social studies program will:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of age-appropriate and relevant current events
- Know the regions of the Americas and the first people who settled there as compared to other early native population in Asia
- Understand the transit routes to the Americas
- Understand how people interact with their environment
- Know specific landforms and the effects they have upon settlement choices
- Understand the timeline of Native American cultures as compared to other early native population
- Understand the components of culture
- Explain specific hardships early European settlers endured
- Understand the nature of cooperation and conflict
- Demonstrate an understanding of mapping skills, especially latitude and longitude
