Social Studies Goals
The grade three social studies program seeks to deepen the understanding of community, geography, history, culture and economics. Mapping skills help the students develop a sense of location in the world. The study of continents is integrated with a unit on world communities and exploration. Communities and cultures are a thread throughout the year, as grade three students offer insights into their home country and find similarities and differences between and among cultures.Resources:

Students who successfully complete the grade three social studies program will:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of age-appropriate and relevant current events
- Understand that communities evolve over time
- Understand that communities are developed and run in different ways
- Understand the interdependency between goods, services and resources
- Understand that many factors influenced world exploration
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic mapping skills
- Explore home country cultures, similarities and differences
- Demonstrate an awareness of the major geographical areas of the world
- Demonstrate an open mind about other cultures
- Research a specific topic
