Early Childhood: Creative Development

Creative arts are fostered through an environment that includes natural elements, aesthetically pleasing materials and arrangements. Providing accessible materials encourages discovery, exploration and problem solving.  The creative arts, including art, music, and drama, provide opportunities for the application of individual ideas, feelings and expression. Creative expression connects to later reading and writing success by fostering eye-hand coordination and the concept of symbolic representation. By experimenting with materials (natural and man-made), sounds, colors, forms, motion and words, children communicate in ways that are distinctly their own and that reflect their learning style. Children will learn through the process of working with various materials. They will have the opportunity to problem solve independently or with others developing short and long term projects.  Children also learn to appreciate the contributions of other children in the world of the arts.
